To Help Drivers Be As Safe As Possible During The Change To Daylight-Saving Time, PennDOT Recommends The Following Tips:
• Plan to get at least eight hours of sleep Saturday night (or more if you are already tired).
• Adjust your sleep pattern to the time change. Go to bed one half hour earlier than your normal weekday bedtime on Saturday night and sleep at least one half hour later on Sunday morning.
• If you need more sleep, plan to take a nap in the middle of the afternoon, but not after 4 p.m., as this is too close to bedtime and can disrupt your nighttime sleep.
• Avoid caffeinated beverages and foods in the afternoon and evening.
• Avoid eating a heavy meal or drinking alcohol too close to bedtime.
• On Sunday night, go to bed early enough to get at least eight hours of sleep.
• Read labels carefully on over-the-counter medicines for warnings such as "may cause drowsiness" or "avoid driving a motor vehicle” and opt for a non-sedating alternative if possible.
• Be aware that coffee or other sources of caffeine are short-term stimulants.
• If a prescription medication causes drowsiness, ask your doctor if non-sedating alternatives are available. If a non-sedating alternative is not available, use caution -- don't drive, or use a designated driver.
• Take breaks during long trips. Get out and stretch about once every two hours. Sleepy drivers are encourage to quickly find a safe place to pull off the road and either switch drivers or rest.

The Worst Of The Storm Is Yet To Come
-- AccuWeather.com reports the worst of the storm is yet to come, even as drenching rain is falling in eastern New England and snow is already accumulating and making roads slippery in the northern mid-Atlantic. This is not your average, everyday nor`easter.
AccuWeather.com meteorologists expect the storm's worst to take place from this evening into Friday morning in most areas as winds, snow, rain and related problems increase in intensity.
New York City to the northern Philadelphia suburbs, northwestward to Allentown, Scranton, Binghamton, Syracuse and Rochester, will get the worst of the snowstorm. A secondary area of heavy snow will hold on over the mountains of northern New England.
At the height of the storm, strong winds will blow the rain and snow horizontally in some locations, while sending loose debris flying.
Motorists should expect deteriorating conditions with lowering visibility and road surfaces turning to slush, snow and ice. Some roads and highways may close, and you may get stuck.
Expect flight cancellations in the major airports in the region, especially around New York City and Philadelphia.
Expect high winds to down trees and result in power outages. Onshore winds in New England will lead to coastal flooding, while blowout tides occur in the southern mid-Atlantic.
Gusts close to hurricane force are possible in coastal New England, the central Appalachians, and around the Delmarva. Winds will be strongest in open areas, between buildings, on ridges, and in the gaps between the mountains.

Penndot District 4 Proactive In Requesting Help Mobile Team Arriving Today From Northwestern PA
Dunmore – Following several hours of intense strategic planning for the storm predicted to arrive in Northeastern Pennsylvania, PennDOT Engineering District 4-0 proactively requested a mobile team to supplement its efforts on Interstate 84 in Pike and Wayne counties.
Teams from Mercer and Erie Counties will provide a total of six trucks with plows, a snow blower, 12 operators and two foremen. All, with the exception of the snowblower, will be positioned along I-84 to be ready for whatever the weather could bring. The snowblower will be assigned to the Dunmore stockpile, a strategic location from which it can be relocated easily as needed.
The crew will be deployed from noon Thursday to noon Friday and will focus on snow removal.
The Wednesday planning sessions included a review of county maintenance resources, including personnel, equipment, fuel, material and budget. All possible scenarios were discussed in order to plan a proactive response to the weather.
