LACKAWAXEN, PA - A small strip mall in Lackawaxen Township burned to the ground less then 100 yards from the firehouse during the early morning hours of Saturday.
The initial alarm came in via 911-Emergency shortly before midnight on Friday. The blaze is believed to have started in the deli on the east end of the riverside structure and quickly spread through the building and into the bait and gun shop. Three businesses were affected. The devastation was total.
The building was owned by Charley and Dimitri Zaimes of Lackawaxen who also ran the bait shop.
State police fire marshals are officially listing the cause of the blaze as “unknown” for the time being but Tri State News has learned that marshals may be suspicious concerning the origin of the fire. A full investigation is under way.
Anyone with any information about the Two River Junction fire is urged to call the state police in Blooming Grove at 570-226-5718.
