MATAMORAS, PA - The Annual Safety Day held at Airport Park on Sunday May 31, 2009 was a great success. It was attended by over 800 visitors and 36 vendors. The safety day was hosted by the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department and the Matamoras Volunteer Fire Department. Several demonstrations were held including: K-9 use by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Liberty Police Department, and the Pike County K-9. A Jaws of Life and repelling demonstration was conducted by the Westfall Fire Department, Matamoras Fire Department, and the Port Jervis Fire Department. Two helicopters were also featured including the Pennsylvania State Police and Life Flight. The Port Jervis Police Department made Identification cards for the kids, which was a great success. Smokey the Bear was a hit for the children this year, which was brought by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
I would like to thank all of the emergency services for helping make this years Safety Day a great success.
