MILFORD, PA.– The Friends of the Children’s Room sponsored the “Wings, Stings and Wiggly Things” Pike County Public Library summer reading programs kickoff on Monday, June 23 at the Milford United Methodist Church on Ann Street.
The program featured a visit from Woodsy Owl, the U.S. Forest Service’s owl mascot who reminded children to “lend a hand–care for the land!” Children’s magician Joe Keppel also presented an insect-themed magic show for the youngsters, who made their own bookmarks with Friends of the Children’s Room volunteers.
The Friends of the Children’s Room, a not-for-profit group of teens with a mission of continually improving the children’s programs and resources at PCPL, sold drinks, food, memberships and t-shirts to raise money for the children’s programs at Pike County Public Library. The group is planning a breakfast for its members in August.
About 100 people attended the event, which marked the beginning of Pike County Public Library’s “Catch the Reading Bug” summer reading programs that run through August. The Friends of the Children’s Room will sponsor the “Library Ant-ics” end of the summer party on Aug. 7 at the Milford Presbyterian Church on Broad Street from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
